Addendum to Tuesday's Post (Find more from Wednesday below)

After school on Tuesday we had a gourmet dinner with Judy, the Special Education teacher and my host, and John. She had all kinds of fresh organic food that I never dreamed could be brought to the village! We had caribou steaks and the works. There was even desert--talk about class! During dinner we talked about teaching in the village and both Judy and John say they love working in Russian Mission. The key to having a positive experience teaching in the bush, they say, is wanting to be here and wanting to contribute to the community.

Later Jimie and I put on our gear and hiked across the river. We saw moose tracks and broken willows, but as Judy predicted, all the moose had run off into the woods. There were huge dune-like mounds in on the east side of the river that I later found out are the result of the ice shifting and surging up as it forms. Now the "break-ice" is covered with snow--the mounds rise more than 6 feet above the surface.
